Bill’s Memoir

If there’s a bit of the adventurer in you, you’ll love reading this book.

  • You’ll laugh when you read about 14 year old Billy flooding the basement of his
home — quite by accident, he claims.
  • You’ll laugh again at his experimenting with rockets and explosives, and doing — quite innocently he insists — just a little bit of damage.
  • You’ll hold your breath again and again when you read of his exploits both hitchhiking and picking up hitchhikers.  Fortunately, only a few of his passengers were seriously dangerous.
  • You’ll move to the edge of your chair while reading of his being caught by the current while swimming across the Colorado River — while hearing the downstream rapids growing louder and louder.
  • You’ll pause to reflect when you read of his thoughts about how we creatures of modern society are too damn busy.  And too materialistic.  And you’ll nod in agreement with his theory about “the three ages of man.”  And how every person needs to maintain their dignity.
  • You’ll either admire him or think he’s nuts when you read that, at age,64 he applied to join the Peace Corps.  And when the Peace Corps’ medical department thrned him down, he and his wife sold their home, put everything they owned in storage and flew down to Peru in search of their own volunteer opportunities.  They moved to, and worked voluntarily, in a poor community in the Peruvian Andes.

Bill Birnbaum writes in his humourous, reader-friendly style.  So you can relax and enjoy reading of his lifetime of small adventures.

Bill’s memoir is available from bookstores and on-line book sellers.  Here’s a link to the book’s page on Amazon.com.

Bill, looks like a good book! My only complaint, is its not available as an e-book. I try to buy only e-books to keep the clutter down. Any chance of seeing an electronic version soon?

Either way, congrats on the book and if you don’t have plans for an e-version, I will have to break down and by the paperback.

Hi, Dan… Regarding my book being available as an e-book, I don’t yet know. For the next two or three months, I’ll be busy with promotional efforts — basically sending books to journalists in an attempt to generate book reviews. Then, I’ll see how book sales are going. If book sales are brisk, I’ll certainly explore the e-book option. So I should think that any decision to go ahead with an e-book is 4 or 5 months away. Thanks for your interest in the book… I’ll certainly let you know if and when an e-book might be coming, Bill

Received book as a gift from a friend. Enjoyed the whole book. Took me back to my chidhood with similar activities and lessons learned. A good read, warm and humorous, full of interesting and unexpected adventures. Happened to meet the author in Sisters, OR. Very personable.
